چکیده

Serial injections (i.m.) of 10 mg follicle stimulating hormone (FSFI-P) to cheetahs for 5 days followed by human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG, 500 IU) administered on both Days 6 and 7 resulted in ovarian follicle development and/or ovulation in six of seven attempts. One additional female given the same gonadotropin regimen when distinct corpora lutea (CL) were visible on the ovaries failed to respond with new follicular growth. No estrous behavior was observed following hormonal treatment.

Successful Induction of Ovarian Activity and Laparoscopic Intrauterine Artificial Insemination in the Cheetah (a Cinonyx Juba Tus)

An exogenous gonadotropin regimen and a laparoscopic intrauterine artificial insemination (AI) technique, previously developed in the domestic cat, were adapted and assessed for effectiveness in the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus). Seven female cheetahs were given an injection of either 200 or 400IU pregnant mares' serum gonadotropin (PMSG) and either 125 or 250IU human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) ...

Single-Incision Laparoscopic Sterilization of the Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus).

OBJECTIVE To describe laparoscopic ovariectomy and salpingectomy in the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) using single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS). STUDY DESIGN Prospective cohort. ANIMALS Female cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) (n = 21). METHODS Cheetahs were randomly divided to receive either ovariectomy (n = 11) or salpingectomy (n = 10). The use and complications of a SILS port was evalu...

Acute disseminated toxoplasmosis in a juvenile cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus).

A juvenile cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) died with rapidly progressive pyrexia, tachypnea, abdominal effusion, and hepatomegaly. Postmortem examination revealed lesions consistent with acute disseminated infection with Toxoplasma gondii. The presence of this organism was confirmed in multiple organs by immunohistochemistry and polymerase chain reaction. To the best of our knowledge, we propose thi...

Claw retraction and protraction in the Carnivora: the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) as an atypical felid

The cheetah Acinonyx jubatus is the most cursorial felid and has been described as somewhat dog-like in both the shape and the diminished degree of retraction of the claws. In this study we evaluate and investigate the osteological correlates associated with claw retraction in the cheetah through a comparison of the morphology of its middle phalanges with those of other felids and of the wolf C...

Reproductive history and absence of predators are important determinants of reproductive fitness: the cheetah controversy revisited

Re-introduction programs rely on reproductively sound individuals and high offspring survival once captively bred species are released into their natural habitat. Some species involved in captive breeding programs reproduce poorly: one prominent example is the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus). Here we use the cheetah as a case study to test predictions from all current hypotheses explaining this phen...
